There were several variations
of the American Half Cent. This section highlights
the Liberty Cap Half Cent and like many other
coins the LIberty Cap Half Cent had a few variations.
The most obvious variations
are the head style. There is a Liberty Cap with
the head facing left and there is one with the
head facing right. The Liberty Cap Half Cent was
minted from 1793-1797. It was made from copper
and it's weight varied but the diameter remained
23.5 millimeters.
There were other subtle
variations for this coin. Some have plain edges
while others may have a lettered edge or a gripped
edge. There was also a Normal Head, High
Relief Head, Punctuated Date, Pole
To Cap, No Pole to Cap and a lower
struck head.
This coin would make a
great addition to any collection and due to it's
many variants it can be a difficult coin to properly
ID for the novice coin collector.
