Don't let it's size fool
you. Although the dime is currently the smallest
minted coin in circulation there are some dimes
that are worth quite a large sum of money.
The dime was first introduced
in 1796. It was a mixture of silver and copper.
The silver content in the early production dimes
alone, makes them valuable. As you know the dime
is still minted today but not in it's previous
silver form. There are some great collectible
dimes floating around in circulation so it never
hurts to check your pocket change.
As with all other American
coins the dime has quite a few variations.
- Drape Bust Dime 1796-1807
- Heraldic Eagle Dime 1798-1807
- Capped Bust Dime 1809-1837
- Liberty Seated Dime 1837-1891
- Barber Dime 1892-1916
- Mercury Dime 1916-1945
- Roosevelt Dime 1946 to now
