There are quite a few
types of die errors found in coins and you can
still find some in modern coins. These errors
are often hard to see without using some sort
of magnification glass or loupe so they often
escape the mint unseen.
Die errors can be caused
by a broken die. These broken dies might have
small cracks and these cracks will show on the
finished coins. The larger the crack in the die
the more valuable the coin will be. Some of these
die crack error coins have large blank spaces
called cuds.
Another popular die error
is a double die.
