A brockage error coin
is a coin that has been struck not by the die
but a coin that has accidentally adhered to the
die. When a coin is made, a blank planchet is
fed into the punch. An engraved die is then pressed
into the blank planchet leaving the design on
the face of the coin. Sometimes a coin will stick
to the die after it has been struck. The next
coin in line is then struck with the coin stuck
to the die instead of the actual die, leaving
a negative impression on the blank planchet. Brockage
errors with the full coin's detail of worth the
most.
