The Braided Hair Half
Cent was the last half cent produced. It was minted
in 1840-1857. This coin was made from copper and
weighs 5.44 grams. It has a diameter of 23 millimeters.
The edge of this coin is plain.
There were not as many
variations of this coin, as there were with the
other half cent coins. These variations can be
difficult to identify.
In 1840-1849 there were
originals and coins that were restrikes. These
can be the hardest to determine. Either one is
very valuable.
In 1849-1857 there were
not any variations other than in 1852 when again
there were originals and restrikes. The value
of the Braided Hair Half Cent changes greatly
depending on the condition of the coin.
