1793 Chain Cent

The 1793 Chain Cent was the very first coin minted by the United States. Obviously it was minted in 1793 and it gets the name Chain cent from the design on the back.

On the reverse side you will find the words one cent wrapped in a chain. Any 1793 large cent is quite valuable and can be hard to find. There are two known variations. On the first variant the revere side of the coin simply says AMERI. and on the second variation the reverse side has the whole word AMERICA.
